Summary: Harry and Ginny talk about their future together. Post-HBP. (532 words)

'Harry, can you hear me?' The words seemed to come from quite a distance away.

He was half-asleep, still in his bed in his tiny bedroom in the house on Privet Drive. He rolled over and blinked. Ginny was sitting cross-legged at the end of his bed, facing him.

'Gi-Ginny?' he asked, rubbing his eyes and sitting up slowly. 'Wh-What are you doing here?'

'I had to see you,' she answered calmly.

'But ... we -'

'I know what you said at the funeral, Harry, and I know you don't want it to be true, either.'

Harry was sitting fully upright now, still not entirely awake, and fully taking in the shock of seeing Ginny in his bedroom.

'I ... but it is true. He'll kill you. Or worse. I can't let that happen.'

'What if he kills you?' Ginny asked, though with no real hint of fear in her voice.

They had reached the point Harry had been dreading. No matter how many times Dumbledore had told him he had 'uncommon skill and power', he was sure he would meet his doom facing Voldemort. He certainly didn't want to tell Ginny he agreed with her assessment.

'If he kills me, he'll -' he paused. Ginny did not know about the prophecy. How could he explain to her what it meant without terrifying her?

'- kill us all, won't he? You're his only obstacle, that's why he wanted to kill you the first time. Isn't it?'

Harry swore silently. Ginny was too clever to hide things from, and he wondered for a moment if she had been studying Legilimency.

'Well ... yes, you've worked it out, I guess,' he admitted.

'Harry, you know I couldn't bear it if ... if ...' Tears were beginning to trickle down her face.

The thing Harry had been fighting against finally overcame him. He leaned forward and pulled Ginny into a tight embrace.

'I love you, Harry,' she spoke into the air.

Harry pulled back slightly and stared at her. He hadn't been expecting this, although he knew it was true. She looked back at him as if trying to read his mind. They simply stared at each other for a minute before Harry looked away.

'I want to go with you,' Ginny continued, now staring resolutely at the side of Harry's head, as he still stared at the wall. 'Hogwarts isn't re-opening, and -'

'Ginny, forget about me for a second,' interrupted Harry, looking back and trying hard to remain objective. 'What would your parents say? You're not even sixteen.'

'Mum and dad have never really been able to stop me doing something I really want to.'

'And I suppose I can't, either, can I?'

'No, Harry, you can't.'

He stared into her eyes, simultaneously resigned and determined. Her fierceness was, after all, one of the things he liked most about her. He laid his head down on her shoulder and closed his eyes, realising, as they sat there together, that there was no point pretending he didn't feel the same as she did.

He looked up at her. 'I - I love you, Ginny,' he finally managed to choke out.

Ginny smiled. 'I know.'
